Ministerial Search Committee: January Update

Jan 17, 2017 | News

We are moving into a new phase of our search: REAL CANDIDATES!!!!  We have a list of candidates supplied by the UUA Transitions Office in Boston. While we cannot relate the details about the individuals on the list, we can say that the candidates seem excited about us. There are several good reasons for maintaining the confidentiality of the ministers.

  • Ministers settled in a church may not have told their present congregation that they are contemplating a move. Their members are entitled to hear the news from their own minister at the appropriate time
  • When the identities of successful candidates are known, it heightens the competitive aspect of the search process. It hurts collegial feelings among ministers and can create hard feelings among congregations.
  • It allows the Search Committee to resolve issues (yes, we are human) if the names are not public.

We have received over 20 indications of interest in our church and we are narrowing the field to those who are most promising. We will spend the next few weeks getting to know the candidates and allowing them to get to know who we are at East Shore via phone interviews. During this time, you may not see us participating in committees and other areas of the church so that we can focus on this important work. While we cannot discuss the names of the ministers, we are happy to answer your questions about the process. If you have questions, you can contact us at [email protected].

Sincerely,
The Ministerial Search Committee (Milly Mullarky, Mary Anderson, Rhonda Brown, Ann Fletcher, Janett Garrow, Ed Rittenhouse, Andy Voss, and Shirley Worth)
