Communications & Marketing Internship

The Communications & Marketing Department at East Shore Unitarian Church is responsible for the organization’s message development, publications, advertising and marketing. This internship focuses on outreach and website marketing, offering an opportunity to learn the techniques and strategies used in outreach for a non-profit organization, as well as the production of a variety of written materials including booklets, pamphlets, ads, social media posts and brochures. This internship represents an excellent opportunity for someone interested in learning about careers in non-profit communications.

Responsibilities:

The Communications & Marketing Department internship will consist of a mix of administration and substantive work experience, including:

  • Creating and writing e-blasts, social media posts, weekly announcements, and newsletters
  • Creating slideshow marketing materials
  • Working with the Marketing and Outreach Team to develop new outreach opportunities and then helping to implement those ideas
  • Assist in updating our website to keep it fresh, up to date, and work on SEO
  • Editing and proofreading
  • Assisting with multimedia production, including photography and audio editing
  • Other administrative duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Majors in journalism, communications, English, public relations or related fields preferred
  • Professional writing, editing, proofreading and communication skills
  • Strong copyediting skills, a strong command of English spelling and grammar
  • Proficiency and experience with WordPress, Facebook, and other social media outlets
  • General computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Ability to respect confidentiality
  • While we are a religious organization, applicant need not be Unitarian Universalist, but must be open minded

  • Gain hands-on experience in non-profit communications work

  • Increase professional contacts through the Marketing Team which consists of professionals throughout the Seattle Area

Other:

  • This is an unpaid internship. School credit is available upon request.
