We are a Welcoming Community

If you are seeking a religious home that honors each person’s religious journey within the context of the interplay of human dignity and divine beneficence, East Shore Unitarian Church might be the place for you. If your theology is eclectic and you are open to new understandings and broader interpretations of the meaning and purpose of life, then East Shore has exciting opportunities for you. If religious community is important to you and you value the creative and comforting interchange that happens only in community, but you chafe with the rigidity of orthodox churches, then East Shore will be a welcome breath of fresh air.

Please try us out this Sunday morning. Our worship service begins at 10:00 am. Every Sunday we offer a full program for Religious Education from infant care through high school youth group.

What can I expect during the service?

Elements of a typical Unitarian Universalist Sunday morning worship service include:

  • Words of welcome
  • Lighting a flaming chalice, the symbol of our faith
  • A Story for All Ages, our multigenerational segment where we invite the children to come forward
  • Music, both instrumental and vocal and in a variety of styles
  • A meditation or prayer
  • A sermon given by a professional minister, a guest speaker, or a member of the congregation

From time to time, worships incorporate holiday celebrations, multigenerational plays and pageants, longer musical performances, child dedications, and coming-of-age ceremonies.

Is childcare available?

Child care is available for younger children during services. Religious Education classes or summer programs are available for children ages four and up.

What if my child doesn’t separate well?

Your child is always welcome to stay with you during the worship service. If your child becomes restless, you may want to sit in the balcony, or visit the North Room next to the Sanctuary and the Family Space in the Administration Building where you can listen to the service on the speakers. Please ask an usher or greeter to show you these areas.

What should I wear to worship?

Some people dress up and some people dress casually. Wear what feels comfortable to you.

How can I get more involved?

Attend a service and stop by the Visitor Table in the foyer. Stay for coffee and conversation following the service. Sign up for a class in Adult Education. Contact Nicole Duff, Membership Development Manager.
