Over the final quarter of 2021, ESUC members and friends responded generously to the needs of Afghan refugees settling in Washington state. We collected and brought donated items to a Storage Unit organized by Muslim Community Resource Center (MCRC), an arm of the Muslim Association of Puget Sound (MAPS). Such items included pots and pans, silverware, dishware, blankets, linen, towels, portable ovens and other small appliances, lamps, tables and the like–all things necessary to create a functional household. Afghan refugee families come periodically to the Storage Unit to choose what they most need.
Beyond these household goods, ESUC members also donated $1,266 in response to the Holiday Letter sent out by Rev. Furrer in December, 2021. These funds have gone directly to the MCRC as they continue to work directly with incoming Afghan refugee families to meet their basic needs.
So thank you to all who gave material or financial aid to our new Afghan neighbors! Both the items and financial donations are being put to good use!
