Each of us, if blessed, walks a long course through Life; hopefully, always learning. Rev. Jim VanderWeele has found and will share an overview of “Part Three: The Eight Pillars of Caste” from Isabel Wilkerson’s Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents—presented as an introduction to the November election. We ask that you consider reading Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson and/or listen to Pete Carroll’s August 29 press conference.

You may recall that the Reverend Jim VanderWeele was here at East Shore providing pastoral support during the Rev. Dr. Furrer’s 2019 Australia trip. Rev. Jim has served as lead minister in Germantown, MD, New Orleans, LA, and Kirkland, WA prior to a 2019 retirement. He entered ministry late in life, in his 50’s, by completing his undergraduate studies with a degree in Religion, featuring World Religion, which included a heavy emphasis on Indian religions. That study, including its look at castes and the caste system ties in with a book we will explore together today.
