In our election politics and in some UU spaces, the question of Trans and Non-Binary people’s legitimacy and self-determination are called into question.
The UUA’s Common Read, Authentic Selves, is a sweeping compilation of life stories and portraits of trans and nonbinary people, as well as their partners, parents, children, siblings, and chosen family members. This important new book was developed in collaboration with PFLAG National and Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund.
This timely book highlights the stories of thirty-five people and many of their families. Throughout the sessions we will use videos, exercises, and discussion questions to provide a basic understanding of sex, gender, and gender identity, allowing participants a common understanding of concepts that may be new to some.
Please plan to attend this Building Beloved Community event. Authentic Selves is an important contribution to the conversation. We hope you will join us for one or all of the sessions to read and discuss this book.
Copies of Authentic Selves are available through the usual outlets. Contact Nicole if you need assistance getting a copy.
We have several parking lots. Our upper lot, off SE 32nd Street, is closest to our Sanctuary, it has handicap and stroller parking. There is a roundabout for drop-offs. Our lower, main parking lot is also off SE 32nd Street. There are stairs that will lead you up to the Sanctuary. If that lot is full, there is also street parking on 32nd Street.
