Join an East Shore Reads discussion group of Edgar Villanueva’s book, Decolonizing Wealth Indigenous Wisdom to Heal Divides and Restore Balance. Villanueva is an expert on philanthropy and a member of the Lumbee Native American Tribe in North Carolina. He argues that the practices and funding sources used by the philanthropic sector serve to exacerbate the problems of the communities they intend to support. His solutions include giving communities control of the resources needed to empower and sustain them. We will also consider how faith community giving could change.
