East Shore has been hosting, feeding, and serving men during the month of October for over a quarter century. We did so again last moth, with more than thirty individual members, and several Ministry and Core Teams taking part in this annual event.
As we culminate the Porchlight Rotating Shelter at ESUC, we extend our thanks to each and every one of you who participated this past month! From shoppers, hosts, contributors, and everyone who participated in providing a dinner – we are very grateful. The list of congregational participants is long! The men are very grateful and express their thanks each and every night. Please know you have made a difference! The men, who have been staying in Spring Hall, express their gratitude each night for the food, but also the wonderful facility where they can sleep, do laundry, shower and enjoy so many of the comforts we often take for granted. Thank you to the East Shore staff who added this to their full plates. And thank you to all who contributed.
But that is not all that PorchLight offers. Just up the street from East Shore, at 13668 SE Eastgate Way, PorchLight has an Emergency ‘s Men’s Shelter housing up to 100 men each night. We’ve been making one lunch a month for them. Our church graciously grants us space to store food and prepare meals, but the food itself is paid through personal donations of church members and friends. As with any social justice ministry, we guide our actions by the needs of the people we are serving, not by our desires or thoughts of what is needed. Therefore, we are expanding our operation to include items which PorchLight cannot fund from their budget.
Check out these new ways to participate and help our unhoused neighbors.
Condiments Drive: Through November
Olives, pickles, salsas, BBQ sauce, relishes etc. all non-perishables, which can be brought to the Sanctuary and placed in a well marked box in the lobby.
Holiday Hot Drinks Drive: December 1-24
Coffee, any teas, cider mix, hot chocolate, honey, creamers. Again drop off any donations to the box in the Sanctuary lobby.
Thank you in advance for your kind generosity.
