March 8: Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood of the Great Northwest and Hawaiian Islands (PPGNHI) is a leader in reproductive health care, rights, and education in Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, and western Washington. The organization provides high-quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care for women, men, and teens. Many patients have no other health care available to them. Part of the reason for selecting PPGNHI is that March 8 is International Women’s Day this year! The Second Sunday Team also received several suggestions for Planned Parenthood from members.

Because of recent changes in Title X, the national funding program for affordable reproductive health services Planned Parenthood participates in, there is a greater need for donations in the Northwest as well as in other parts of the country. PPGNHI recently announced a strategic alliance with Planned Parenthood of Indiana and Kentucky, which is a particularly challenging political environment in the Midwest. So, our donation may be shared with the organizations in Indiana and Kentucky.

The Rev. Vincent Lachina, Regional Chaplain of Planned Parenthood, will speak to us briefly about the organization on March 8.
