The Second Sunday collection on January 8th will go to Way Back Inn.
We are all well-aware of the magnitude of the homeless situation in the Seattle area. One agency that is addressing this issue is Way Back Inn, an independent, non-profit organization that provides transitional housing to homeless children and families. The organization, located in Renton, currently has nine housing units available, and has just purchased another duplex. They have been providing services to homeless families for 25 years.
Their mission is provide safe, comfortable housing so parents have time to work on issues impeding their self-sufficiency, while knowing their children have a safe place to sleep at night and a nearby school to attend.
They provide several programs which address long-term solutions to the families’ homelessness. Short Term Transitional Housing provides emergency housing for 3 to 6 months while families work toward finding employment and stable housing. Long Term Transitional Housing provides a stable environment for up to two years, while parents finish educational or job training programs. Way Back Inn also provides preventive services to other families at risk of becoming homeless by paying rent and/or utilities for one month.
