The recipient of our Second Sunday/Share the Plate Offering for July 11 will be the Northwest African American Museum, located in Seattle. NAAM’s mission is to spread knowledge, understanding, and enjoyment of the histories, arts, and cultures of people of African descent for the enrichment of all. “We accomplish our mission by working with others to: present and preserve the connections between the Pacific Northwest and people of African descent; and to investigate and celebrate Black experiences in America through exhibitions, programs, and events.”
This is done in many ways, currently virtual exhibits and presentations or outdoors, as the museum is closed due to the coronavirus. Some recent examples: a Malcolm X Celebration in May and Juneteenth Week, June 14 – 21. NAAM also does education outreach including:
- Knowledge is Power Children’s Book Giveaway Program
- Monthly Interactive Story Time
- Youth Curator Program for ages 14 – 18
- K-12 School Tours – Temporarily Suspended
- NAAM YouTube Channel
Please give generously to support NAAM, which like other museums, has suffered from closure during the pandemic.
