May 8: International Convocation of UU Women

On May 8, East Shore’s Share the Plate donation will go to the International Convocation of UU Women (ICUUW) The establishment of the ICUUW as a nonprofit organization was sparked by the First International Convocation of UU Women and Progressive People of Faith, Houston, TX, USA, 2009.

East Shore’s own Geri Kennedy is the Treasurer of ICUWW. She describes the organization thus:

“Our mission is to improve the lives of women and girls worldwide. We have sponsored and helped to fund projects in eight countries. Programs range from non-violence classes in the Khasi Hills, India, to the planting of 2,300 fruit trees by indigenous Guatemalan women. We have raised funds to provide computers for disadvantaged girls in Transylvania and sent funds to Acacia in Kenya to provide much-needed COVID-19 relief efforts, including sanitary pads, water buckets and soap, masks, and sensitization sessions on COVID-19 and on how to prevent teenage pregnancies and early marriages. You can visit our website for details on the many other projects we have accomplished – intlwomensconvo.org”

On May 8, Geri will be with us after the morning service to tell us more and engage members of the congregation in small-group discussion. Be sure to join us then!
