UUSC Update: March 2018

Feb 13, 2018 | News

To all who donated to UUSC during its winter Guest at Your Table campaign, thank you! East Shore collectively donated $3,237 this year to enable UUSC to carry out its work. UUSC works in over 25 countries with over 75 grassroots partners. Your contributions help make this possible.

One example is UUSC’s partnership with grassroots organizations in Myanmar (Burma) since 2002. Today, UUSC works to address the refugee crisis associated with the expulsion of the Rohingya from Rakhine state. Hundreds of thousands of Rohingya are now refugees throughout SE Asia while 100,000 remain as internally displaced persons in camps under deplorable conditions in Rakhine state.

UUSC participates in a coordinated advocacy campaign to ensure that the US exerts pressure on the Burmese government to allow investigators free and unfettered access to the affected region, and to take back and protect the rights of Rohingya refugees. UUSC is also providing emergency assistance to local partners such as Fortify Rights and the Center for Social Integrity. For more information on this and other efforts, and what more you can do, please visit UUSC’s website.

Finally, thank you too to all the East Shore women who donated an additional $400 towards UUSC’s Rohingya efforts in their January meeting of Women’s Perspective. Your generosity reflects your commitment to East Shore’s mission!
