This is a busy time for East Shore, and our calendar is packed with exciting activities. All these activities and all the work that goes on behind the scenes to keep the church running smoothly take a lot of work. Our staff does an amazing job, but there are only eight of them, three of whom are part time, so they need the support of volunteers to help. Volunteering is fun, and helps you get to know more members of the community.
Here are some key current needs:
Food on Sundays
Our Coffee Hours after service on Sundays are the best time to make everyone feel welcome. Since it’s usually close to lunchtime, and there are often meetings afterwards, it’s important that we provide abundant food to meet everyone’s needs. While some Sundays are covered by specific teams or individuals hosting coffee hour, we have many Sundays in between where there is a need for a wider range of food.
Volunteers are needed to bring food for Sunday Coffee Hour on a regular basis. Ideally we need fruit and a veggie platter as well as cookies and other baked goods. Could you commit to bringing a specific food item once a month? Contact Nicole Duff, or sign up here
Zoom tech assistants
If you prefer to join in Sunday services on zoom, and you’re comfortable with technology, please consider being one of our regular tech helpers on some Sunday mornings. Contact Jenny Newell for more information.
RE Logistics
With the new tenant for the RE Building, there will be some disruption to the RE Program, especially during the construction phase. Planning out the logistics of what needs to be moved where and when is something that is going to require some additional volunteers over the next few months. If you can help with this, contact Amanda Alice Uluhan.
Photographers
We’d love to update our photo directory. Since Lifetouch folded during Covid, we haven’t had a professional photography session, and so Nicole has relied on clipping photos from Facebook for many members. We need several people with an eye for photography to take good shots of members (over several Sundays) and keep track of who we’ve taken. All photos will be uploaded to Realm where we can then generate a directory. If you’re interested in participating in this project, contact Nicole Duff.
East Shore’s Auction – Saturday March 21st
The auction is coming up on March 21st. This is a wonderful opportunity for us all to get together to support East Shore. If you don’t plan to attend in person, you can still participate by volunteering. There are still some slots to fill, supporting the chef with food preparation or serving, helping people use the Auction software to register or bid, or cleaning up afterwards. Sign up here or contact Cris LeCompte.
Teams and Committees
Teams report to a key staff member to support specific operational areas of the church. Committees report to the Board to provide input and support for board level responsibilities. They typically meet monthly on zoom. Here are some of those teams and committees who are looking for more members at present:
Facilities Team – responsible for overseeing the maintenance contracts for our premises. Contact Dave Baumgart
Financial Stewardship Committee – responsible for overseeing the Endowment Fund and long term financial planning. Contact Geri Kennedy or Claudia Hirschey
Policy and Governance – responsible for drafting and updating policies, and supporting the Board in running Congregational Meetings. Contact Karin Elofson
There are many other teams and committees, plus ministry teams working on a specific social justice cause, that always welcome new members as well. If you have any questions about volunteering, or would like to explore how to best put your talents and interests to use, please contact Nicole Duff or Amanda Strombom.
