More Information

While saxophone is most commonly associated with jazz, it offers a much wider range of stylistic possibilities. In Europe, saxophone is closely linked to classical music which explains the emergence of remarkable repertoire for saxophone in the 20th century and its unceasing popularity in the 21st century. Saxophone’s expansive timbral and technical possibilities lend themselves wonderfully to the performance of the music of the Baroque, Classical, and Romantic eras. Saxophone’s classical side dominates this program and includes a diverse mix of composers – Johann Sebastian Bach, Astor Piazzolla, Sergei Rachmaninoff, Pedro Iturralde, and more.

The dynamic duo of saxophonist Sergei Govorov and pianist Yuly Kopkin invite you to get immersed into the unique sound sphere of the classical saxophone in their new concert program ‘All That Metters’, reflecting on their respective life journeys. Both representatives of the Russian School of Music Performance, they are excited to share their world-class artistry with the Bellevue audiences. Govorov’s superior craftsmanship awarded him the prestigious title of Yamaha Artist while Kopkin’s artistic accomplishments won him a Fulbright scholarship to pursue graduate studies in the US.
