Our Whole Lives: Lifespan Sexuality Education
Our Whole Lives (OWL) is more than sex ed—it’s a program that helps kids and teens build confidence, explore values, understand relationships, and navigate life’s changes in a safe, supportive space. Led by trained staff and volunteers, OWL —welcoming families of all backgrounds.

Grades K-2 (Ages 5-8)
Supports parents and kids in learning about birth and sexuality. The Kindergarten/1st/2nd Grade Our Whole Lives curriculum focuses on 3 things: Firstly, bodies are cool; secondly, breaking down gender assumptions (i.e. all kids can play with dolls and trucks regardless of gender); and thirdly, to make a baby you need a sperm, egg and uterus. This curriculum uses children’s books, games, and crafts to teach things and our facilitators are all incredible.
Grades 7-9 (Ages 12-14)
A comprehensive program for youth that explores relationships, values, and self-respect in a safe, inclusive space. Activities include discussion, games, and interactive exercises to build confidence and decision-making skills.
Ages 35-50/Adults
Using values, communication skills and spirituality as starting points, this program explores sexuality issues for adults of all ages. Builds understanding of healthy sexual relationships, affirms diversity and helps participants accept and affirm their own sexuality throughout their lives.
Grades 4-6 (Ages 9-12)
Helps preteens understand and navigate the physical, emotional, and social changes of puberty. Provides accurate, inclusive information about sexuality and relationships, empowering participants to make healthy decisions.
Grades 10-11 (Ages 15-18)
Comprehensive program for high school youth, offering space to explore relationships, sexuality, and personal values. Activities help participants make healthy, well-informed decisions and build confidence in themselves and their community.
Ages 50+/Older Adult
A holistic sexuality education curriculum for older adults. Comprehensive and progressive, this program addresses sexuality with sensitivity and respect for older adults’ wisdom and life experience.
OWL Volunteering
East Shore OWL is a partnership between church staff and volunteer community members. We have many roles suitable for various interests and skills. Our program is growing and we are in need of volunteers to help with administrative tasks. OWL Facilitator training takes place online or in person and is an 18 hour program. Our own training to work with kids is typically held at the beginning of year, and on a one-on-one basis as needed. We make sure everyone has the opportunity to be trained before engaging with the youth programs at East Shore. Participate in a thorough background check
Facilitate one session of developmentally appropriate classes for kids in K-1st, 4th& 5th, 7th-9th, 10th-12th grades or adults ages 18-35, 35-50, or 50+. Time commitments vary by age group; see schedules on our web page for current dates and times.
The OWL facilitator training online is $350. In person trainings run higher to training (include travel, room, and board). These fees can be covered by the congregation or member and are considered an investment in both the trainer and host congregation. The congregation provides a copy of the OWL curriculum for all facilitators. Good facilitator candidates are:
- Committed to values-based, comprehensive sexuality education.
- Comfortable with their own sexuality.
- Comfortable with the specific age group they plan to facilitate and its developmental needs.
- Anti-bias aware and willing to continue educating themselves.
- Advocates for sexual health and safety.
- Dedicated team members and facilitators.
