Would you and your family like to get involved with East Shore’s Covid Food Relief Project?
Join us to Pick Beets for the Bank – the food bank, that is. We have a chance to work and learn outside at The Food Bank Farm.
Since 2011, The Food Bank Farm in Snohomish County has been growing food to donate. All of the produce now goes to Food Lifeline and all of it is harvested by volunteers!
The Food Bank Farm is about 45 minutes from East Shore. We will provide snacks and water. The farm does have some gloves, but if possible, please bring your own. You will also need rain gear, warm clothes, and boots. You will be working in the dirt and fun and learning are priorities. All ages are welcome and you don’t have to be a farmer—in fact, you are welcome even if you have never harvested beets! You and your family don’t have to stay the entire 3 hours – any time you can give is appreciated.
The farm has safety measures in place:
- There will be more than 6 feet of social distancing between working pods (families or groups that are from the same household). You will be outside the entire time.
- Everyone answers screening questions before they come and have their temperatures taken when they arrive
- Masks are required if people are within 10 feet of others
- The on-site porta-potties are regularly sanitized
We know that families have different levels of comfort with venturing out during Covid. Some will welcome a safe, socially distanced and masked activity outside, while others may not. Please think about your level of comfort with an effort such as this and know that we don’t expect this opportunity to be for everyone.
