Do you get exasperated when someone makes a statement you cannot abide, one that offends your personal values? What do you do? Counter statement? Argue? Remain silent but resolve to end your relationship because your values are too vast to bridge?
In today’s world, differences in belief and values are common. Because these conflicts merit tough discussions if we are to co-exist in harmony, how we listen to others’ viewpoints and then take thoughtful actions can often neutralize a combative situation.
During our retreat, we will explore our personal responses to conflict; we will learn how to hear others without judgment, express our ideas clearly, and practice new responsive skills that retain our integrity and respect. All of this is in a fun, supportive, interactive environment!
Our presenter, Kathleen Macferran, is author of “Choice: A Field Guide for Navigating the Polarization of Our World and Living Interdependently”. Kathleen is a well-versed facilitator in reconciliation and transformation, having worked with individuals, businesses, schools, and in particular, prison inmates and correctional and law enforcement employees through the Freedom Project of Seattle. This is an organization that supports healing and restoration through Nonviolent Communication, mindfulness, racial equity, and anti-oppression. Her passion is about making healthy connections.

We have several parking lots. Our upper lot, off SE 32nd Street, is closest to our Sanctuary, it has handicap and stroller parking. There is a roundabout for drop-offs. Our lower, main parking lot is also off SE 32nd Street. There are stairs that will lead you up to the Sanctuary. If that lot is full, there is also street parking on 32nd Street.
