I am sharing the video recording of the Berry Street Essay delivered by Rev. Cecilia Kingman (found at esuc.org) titled “My Little Pony Was Right: Reflections of Fascisms Without and Within.” I hope you find it as challenging, illuminating, and inspiring as I did (watch here).
In her 2023 Berry Street essay, the Rev. Cecilia Kingman reflects upon the rise of authoritarianism, right-wing ideology, and fascism both within Unitarian Universalism and in the wider world. In this first session, join Rev. Kingman and the Side With Love team for an interactive opportunity to engage with this essay and the kinds of faithful responses it demands on behalf of our UU faith.
Rev. Cecilia Kingman is the Minister for Faith and Justice at the Edmonds Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Edmonds, WA. She lives in Seattle with her partner Alan and their two youngest children. They have three young adult children spread around the globe. Cecilia has studied totalitarian systems and spent two decades working with the Unitarian community in Eastern Europe.
Offered annually during Professional Days before General Assembly, the Berry Street Essay began in 1820 when the “Rev. William Ellery Channing, Minister of the Federal Street Church of Boston, invited all Massachusetts ministers known to be liberal to meet in the vestry of his church (whose entrance was on Berry Street).”
