Grades 4-6 Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education

This ten-workshop curriculum is designed to help children ages nine through twelve to gain the knowledge, life principles, and skills they need to understand and express their sexuality in holistic, life-enhancing ways. Like the other Our Whole Lives programs for different age groups, this comprehensive, developmentally appropriate program introduces key topics like values, body image, gender and sexual identity, peer pressure, and healthy relationships with sensitivity and inclusiveness, yet without specifically religious doctrine or reference. There is a mandatory parent/child orientation.

Curriculum includes topics such as self-awareness, body awareness, values, language, anatomy, physiology, gender roles, gender equality, and relationship skills. In order to support learning and group trust levels, regular attendance is expected. Our Whole Lives is a 24-session course, with some extracurricular outings and overnights to build community. Junior Youth OWL start at 10:30am in their classroom in the Education building.

Online Event

Come online to learn more about the Our Whole Lives. This meeting will focus on the curriculum for grades K-3, ages 5-9, scheduled to start April 1. You will have an opportunity to learn about the newly published curriculum, meet with workshop facilitators and our program Director, and ask questions.

Our Whole Lives Sexuality Education for Grades K–3 is an eight-workshop class that helps children begin the lifelong process of acquiring information and forming attitudes and values about identity, relationships, safety and health. Unlike many other sexuality curricula currently available, this program is comprehensive and progressive. In an inclusive and developmentally appropriate manner, it addresses sensitive topics that are typically excluded. Although the curriculum was developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ, this course is completely secular and free of specific religious doctrine or reference. However, the underlying values of the program reflect the justice-oriented traditions of both denominations.
