In such a small world it can mean so much to welcome the stranger. Now, and perhaps more than ever, our generous responses may be the key to building the community we yearn to grow.

Reverend Eric Kaminetzky grew up in Unitarian Universalism and serves our Congregation in Edmonds, WA. His first career was in the law as a licensed and practicing Attorney.

More Information

Religious Education for children and youth happens during worship on Sundays. Children and youth arrive in the Sanctuary for the just a little bit and welcome in Sunday with a story and song. Then, they attend their own programs in the Education building. Learn more here!

If you don’t have a chalice, but want to light one, check out our Making a Chalice at Home page.

In person services are followed by coffee hour.

Testimonial

Good morning!

My Name is Martin Cox. I use he/him pronouns.

I’m here today to share with you a little about why I am a member and why I pledge and donate to East Shore Unitarian Church.

Cutting straight to the point: it’s all about R.E. — Religious Education – which here at East Shore, is quite a lot more than just Sunday school.

I have been a member here at East Shore with my wife, Elaine, and our three kids Logan, Ethan and Milo, since 2006. I am presently serving as your Secretary on the East Shore Board of Trustees. I am a member of the R.E. core team; I am the board liaison to the Personnel Committee, and I am a leader of the East Shore Family Covenant Circle.

Of all these many ways I’m deeply involved in East Shore, the single biggest reason I pledge is this: it’s all about R.E.

There are so many reasons why R.E. deserves every dollar we can pledge, every vote we can cast, and every hour we can volunteer.

At East Shore, my kids learned to appreciate diversity both in people and in mind set. My kids may never consider themselves unitarian universalists, but after being raised in this church, you can tell when they get into conversations, that they have an open-mindedness towards different perspectives, while maintaining a healthy skepticism towards dogma and systems of beliefs.

Worship here on Sunday is the centerpiece of my experience at East Shore, but it is Family Covenant Circle – which is small group ministry – that cements my deepest bond. Family Covenant Circle is where I connect with you at a fundamental level, deeper than polite coffee hour conversation.

Family Covenant Circle proves the value of the lessons we learned from Right Relations: that we feel connected to other people when we sense that they see us, know us, and care about us. That’s what connection circles are about: being seen, being heard, being known, and developing affection.

The East Shore R.E. program – with Amanda Alice Uluhan and LeAnne Stubble – has supported me and the Family Covenant Circle consistently since 2007 when LeAnne and Chris Strubble and Julie Heise and others had small kids and were in the Family Covenant Circle.

Like a growing family, the Family Covenant Circle is always evolving. Over time, we have grown more deeply integrated into R.E., and now we collaborate with R.E. to make sure our kids are taken care of while the adults of the Family Covenant Circle are meeting, connecting, and sharing our experiences on this journey that is family life.

That is why I pledge. And that is why, if you only remember one thing out of everything I just said, it’s that it’s all about R.E.!
